Afterschool Program

NHCS Afterschool Program Information 2017-2018

Dear families,

As we look to the upcoming school year, we are excited to announce a new model for our afterschool program!  Based on your feedback, we are incorporating more activities and student choice, especially for 3rd – 7th grade students. We plan to offer activities like arts and crafts, cooking, tae kwon do, basketball, science, and more!

We are also glad to announce that this year we will be serving all grades K1-7 on-site here at NHCS. Because of this, we will no longer be providing a monitored bus to the Daniel Marr Boys & Girls Club.  Families who wish to enroll their child/ren at the Daniel Marr or another afterschool program may do so and, if eligible for a bus, may request an alternative drop-off location.

To enroll in afterschool, please complete and return the two-page registration form along with a $25 deposit check made payable to NHCS.  The Afterschool Registration Form is available here. Forms were sent by U.S. mail as well. Families that have unpaid afterschool fees from the 2016-17 school year will not be eligible to enroll in afterschool until the fees are paid.

We anticipate being able to accommodate all families that apply by the July 24th deadline. Applications received after July 24th will be considered on a rolling basis.

Afterschool runs from 3:45pm until 6:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 12:30pm until 6:00pm on Wednesdays. The first day of afterschool will be Tuesday, September 5th. This year’s tentative schedule for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be:

3:45-4:15 Homework and reading time

4:20-5:00 Choice Block 1 (for example, choice between cooperative games and computer coding)

5:05-5:45 Choice Block 2 (for example, choice between basketball and arts & crafts)

5:50-6:00 Dismissal (all students in the dining hall)

Many Wednesdays we plan to offer a field trip from approximately 12:45-4:45pm. This will vary according to our destination. Possible field trips include the New England Aquarium, Boston Bowl, and Tenean Beach.

Program fees

Program fees are on a sliding scale based on family size and income (please see page 2 of the registration form). The maximum cost will be $225 per month for one student. Families who qualify for the 25% discount will pay $170 monthly and families that qualify for the 50% discount will pay $110 monthly. Additionally, families with more than one child enrolled will receive a 20% discount for each sibling. Payments will be due on the 1st of each month. As in previous years, late pick-ups (after 6:00pm) may incur fees or penalties, including removal from the program.

Your registration form and a $25 deposit are due by July 24th to hold a spot for your student.

We look forward to seeing you at orientation on August 29th! If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact Sara Gardner-Heart at
