Why We Need Your Support

My teachers would push me to my limit, ‘You know you can do it! You know you can do it!’ and when I do I am proud of myself and I want to do more and more.
—Ariel, Student

Students like Ariel are why we go above and beyond at NHCS. Our goal is to prepare our students—the vast majority of whom are low-income students of color—for success in high school, post secondary education and, ultimately, in life.

We’re extremely proud of our students’ academic achievement. However, our job doesn’t end with great MCAS scores. By funding additional teaching positions to reduce the teacher-student ratio; teacher professional development that allows our experienced teachers to hone their craft; and field trips that expose our students to experiences beyond Dorchester, your support puts our students on the road to academic and personal success.

When you support NHCS your support reaches beyond our walls. NHCS serves as a laboratory for educational best practices that are developed, perfected and ultimately shared with students in Boston and beyond. Your support makes this happen.

Please consider donating to NHCS today! Thank you for your generosity and support.

Leverage Your Gift by Donating Appreciated Stock or Mutual Funds

Transferring appreciated securities (held more than one year) is an excellent way to support Neighborhood House’s educational mission and receive double tax benefits, including:

  • A charitable income tax deduction based on the full fair market value of the securities; and
  • Avoidance of the capital gains tax otherwise due upon the sale of the appreciated stock, bonds or mutual funds.

For more information on transferring stocks, click here or contact Bodi Luse, Director of Development.
